Overview

This highly visible site sits at the entrance to Gateshead’s Baltic Business Quarter fronting onto the A197 Felling bypass. Fintry’s proposals for the site are to create a range of retail and leisure units which will provide these much needed services to occupiers of the Business Park and Gateshead College.

A planning application was submitted to Gateshead Council in March 2019 and is due for determination in Q3 2019.

The proposed mix of floorspace could also be expected to support in the region of £725,000 in Business Rates per annum for the local authority.

During the construction phase, the proposal could be expected to support:

  • private sector investment of c.£8.8m in Gateshead;
  • 80 direct construction jobs during the 1 year build period;
  • 125 indirect/induced jobs within the supply chain and related services during the 1 year build period; and
  • £8.8m of Gross Value Added (GVA) (economic output)

Once the development is completed, the scheme with comprise 94,000 sqft and could be expected to generate around 210 FTE gross full time equivalent (FTE) jobs.
Discussions are at an advanced stage with a number of national retailers and food and drink occupiers.
